I love that as a photographer, I sometimes get the incredible opportunity of watching my client's kids grow up in front of my lens. I've been photographing Gianna since she was one years old, and this year marked my seventh photo session with this wonderful family ( and the second year we've taken a documentary approach for their annual photos). Both Gianna and her sister Charlotte (3 years old), have such fun and lively personalities and it has been such a pleasure watching them blossom over the years.
We had this session planned for the end of September and got lucky with the most perfect day for a trip to the beach. 80 degrees and sun?! It doesn't get better than that. The girls had such a blast playing in the sand and dipping their toes in the Lake for one last time before saying goodbye to the beach season.
No documentary family photo session is complete without laughs, silliness, and even some mild temper tantrums (when playtime was coming to an end). The beauty of this genre is that it doesn't just focus on capturing "picture perfect" smiles, but the raw, honest, in-the-moment emotions that help tell a family's story.
I had such a hard time narrowing down images for the blog (there were so many to choose from!), but these are definitely some of my favorites.
